Trainee Integrative Arts Psychotherapist

What to expect

Arts psychotherapy is like traditional forms of talking therapy, but you can art materials to support the work. You do not need to be ‘good’ at art or even have any previous experience of making to benefit from it. It is effective for self-expression, exploration, and play, and can be beneficial for anyone.

In the moment, these creative processes are calming and grounding, and in the long term improve mental, physical, and emotional wellbeing. When words are difficult, or don’t feel like enough, the arts can help with communication. We can also think creatively together and in metaphorical ways. Your artworks will then act as a map of the work to help us track your progress and see what direction you might want to take the work in.

Working together creatively

In my practice, I like to focus on creating a safe, warm, and confidential environment that you can bring anything to. I believe that you are the expert in your experience and am there to support you to tell your story. I work predominantly in a person-centred way, and draw influence, knowledge, and techniques from various other modalities.

Initially, we can work out what you want from the therapy. Whether you are experiencing any of the issues listed above, or you just need a non-judgemental space to express yourself and be witnessed. Together, we can build a trusting therapeutic relationship, and work collaboratively to create goals for the work. Reaching for help is a courageous step of self-compassion.
